Relay for Life will be back for a jam-packed 24-hour event on 1-2 April 2023 at the
Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athletics track in Canberra.
After two years of virtual events, and a condensed in-person event in early 2022, the Canberra community can look forward to the full-scale return of Relay for Life.
Relay for Life is Cancer Council ACT’s lead fundraising event and brings hundreds of Canberrans together. Teams register to walk in relay for all or part of the 24 hours to show
that cancer never stops, so neither will we.
Cancer Council ACT CEO Verity Hawkins says, “One of the highlights of Relay for Life for
many had always been the overnight aspect and we are excited to be able to bring this
back in 2023. Teams will have the option to participate for the whole 24-hour event or they
can Relay the hours they are comfortable with.”
“Relay For Life has become an important event in the Canberra community, which is
reflected in the commitment of our teams and supporters. And all the funds they raise go
back into supporting people impacted by cancer in the ACT, through our support,
prevention and research programs.”
Relay for Life is led by a dedicated volunteer committee that work closely with Cancer
Council ACT. Michael Liu has stepped forward as the committee chair for the 2023 event,
bringing with him a breadth of experiences with major events and a personal determination
to create something special for the ACT region.
“We are creating an engaging program for the return of the fully-fledged event in 2023 that will see many of the treasured parts of Relay combine with exciting new elements supported by local businesses and organisations,” said Mr Liu.
“Cancer affects all of us. This year’s volunteer committee brings old and new face together, united with a common goal to build on the ACT Relay experience and raise some much needed funds.
“We look forward to seeing new and returning teams sign up for this momentous return.”
