A baby girl has been welcomed into the world in the driveway of Browns Plains Police Station in Logan after her father made a pitstop at the station, fearing his partner would not make it to hospital in time to give birth.
Just after midnight on Tuesday, on-duty officers say they were returning to the station when they were flagged down by a man in a red hatchback parked in the station’s driveway.
Officers approached the vehicle where they discovered a 22-year-old heavily pregnant woman in the late-stages of labour.
Her partner had been transporting her to Logan Hospital when they realised they weren’t going to make it in time for the baby to be born, so instead pulled into the police station driveway.
Constable Jenna Ziviani, under the guidance of a Queensland Ambulance Service Emergency Medical Dispatcher on the phone, helped deliver the baby in the backseat seven minutes later.
Paramedics then arrived shortly after and transported the woman and newborn baby girl to hospital. Both are happy, healthy and now recovering at home.
Senior Sergeant Aleisha Young, who arrived shortly after the birth, said it was the first time in her 27-year policing career that she had witnessed a birth.
“It’s a celebration, I just don’t have champagne to offer you!” she said excitedly. “How amazing! ” she said.
