Boy charged after woman, 76, struck in head with can

Tasmania Police have charged a youth with assault following an incident in the Hobart CBD this afternoon during which a 76-year-old woman received a head injury. 

Police say that at around 1.20pm, a group of youths were throwing objects off the top floor of the Argyle Street Carpark into Wellington Walk. 

“It will be alleged a 13-year-old has thrown a full can of soft drink off the top floor of the car park which has hit a 76-year-old woman on the head as she was walking in Wellington Walk,” Police said in a statement.

Police attended and arrested the youth who will be subject to the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

The 76-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital where she is undergoing scans for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
