Boy, 13, charged with attempted robbery of service station

Northern Territory Police have charged a 13-year-old boy with the attempted robbery of a Katherine service station.

Police say the boy was one of a group of youths who approached the service station and threatened staff in the early hours of Saturday, November 28. 

Its understood the youths demanded cigarettes and cash from the service station staff.

The 13-year-old has been charged with attempted robbery, going armed in public and making threats to kill a person.

“It is very concerning that a 13-year-old has been involved in such serious offences. But we are pleased to say that police are working with the family and other community groups to reduce the likelihood of his reoffending,” said NT Police Superintendent Craig Garland.

He will appear in court at a later date.

Police say enquiries are continuing in relation to the other youths and their involvement in the incident.
