Australia’s scam watchdog, Scamwatch, has issued a new warning in relation to fraudulent activity involving people purporting to be representing the popular television streaming service, Netflix.
The scam operates by sending fake emails from ‘Netflix’ asking recipients to update their payment details, citing “billing information”.
If you click through from the email, Scamwatch says you could potentially be tricked into giving up personal financial details such as credit card numbers, which the cyber criminals can then use for further fraudulent purchases.
“Fresh warnings of Netflix phishing scams. Be careful of emails asking you to click on a link to update your account,” Scamwatch said in a statement today.
“Don’t click on the link, if unsure go directly to the website to check your [Netflix] account.”
