Bayside seniors champion new exercise park

Bayside City Council now has nine local senior ‘champions’ who are skilled and ready to assist other seniors to discover the benefits of the new Seniors’ Exercise Park at Thomas Street Reserve in Hampton.

The National Ageing Research Institute has taught the ‘champions’ how to use the equipment safely and effectively, so they in turn can instruct others, Council said in a statement today.

“The equipment is designed to encourage seniors to maintain flexibility and balance, and in doing so reduce the potential for falls in the home.”

“The basic exercises may look simple, but the champions have been taught how to make them more challenging as a person’s confidence increases.

“We’ll be introducing a Friday morning drop in-session with our new champions in February next year so any local seniors who are looking for some guidance and good company will be welcome to drop by.

“But don’t worry if you are keen to get started now, each piece of equipment has a QR code that you can scan and watch videos on recommended exercises,” the Council said.
