An award-winning cattle farm in Casino can begin the recovery of its herd after receiving the Australian Army’s first hay delivery to the region.
Soldiers from 5th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (5RAR), have delivered 50 bales to Mogul Brahman Stud Farm at Yorklea, just outside Casino, after strong floods inundated the property.
Mogul Brahman Stud manager, Glen Pfeffer said he was happy to see the 5RAR soldiers arrive with the feed.
“Having hay for our stock will free us up to look after the cows and calves and begin fixing the fencing,” Mr Pfeffer said.
“In spite of the floods, we’re still planning on participating in the Sydney Royal Easter Show this year, but the cattle will require preparation to recover.”
Last year, Mogul Brahman Stud won the Brahman junior and grand champion categories at the Easter show in Sydney.
On the farm, 5RAR platoon commander Lieutenant Jack McAntee said his soldiers were quick to unload the hay and eager to help out in other ways around the stud farm.
“We delivered the hay in one of Army’s new Rheinmetall MAN trucks and 16 of our soldiers unloaded it by hand in less than 10 minutes,” Lieutenant McAntee said.
Army troops continue to deliver feed to other farmers across the region as part of flood recovery efforts.
