Alleged thief found hiding in ceiling

A man found hiding in a roof cavity by police will face court today charged with a spate of break and enter robberies in Wagga Wagga.

NSW Police say that throughout August and September 2020, a number of businesses were broken into in the Wagga Wagga CBD, with cash, jewellery and electronic items reportedly stolen.

On September 30 officers from Riverina Police District attended a home on Bruce Street, Tolland, and located a 25-year-old man allegedly hiding in a roof cavity.

The man was arrested and police executed a subsequent search of the property, locating cannabis and clothing, allegedly linked to the break and enters.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with six counts of aggravated break, enter and steal, cultivate prohibited plant, malicious damage and breach AVO.

The man was refused bail and appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Thursday 1 October 2020, where he was formally refused bail to reappear in the same court today.

Police say inquiries are continuing and further arrests are expected to be made.
