A $3.35 million expansion and redevelopment of the Albany Surf Life Saving Club is now underway.
The community project is being supported by the WA Government, which has contributed $2.8 million in funding to make it possible.
“Funding important community infrastructure projects like the Albany Surf Life Saving Club redevelopment is an example of my Government’s strong commitment to delivering for regional Western Australia,” said Premier, Roger Cook.
“A project like this supports the local government, community groups, and wider community through the provision of high-quality facilities everyone can benefit from.
“Most importantly, this project will improve lifesaving and water safety operations, which are vital services that save lives.”
Improved community safety at Albany’s popular Middleton Beach is a key outcome of the redevelopment, which will boost lifesaving and water safety operations through a centralised lifesaving hub, along with better access to motorised water safety equipment.
The project will also deliver more facilities with spaces for training, education, and events, ensuring the whole community will benefit from the redevelopment year-round.
“This is a fantastic project that demonstrates the important relationship between State Government, local government, and community groups in delivering important local services and support to the community,” said WA Sport and Recreation Minister, David Templeman.
“Congratulations to all the members and dedicated volunteers at the Albany Surf Life Saving Club who have raised funds and advocated for the redevelopment of this important local facility.
“Sporting clubs and groups are integral to the fabric of regional communities, and our Government is committed to strengthening regional communities.”
The City of Albany Council, which is managing the project on behalf of the State Government, awarded the construction contract in December to Smith Constructions, who have now commenced works.
