Blue Mountains City Council has announced it will host two free community events designed to help seniors, carers, and loved ones better understand Australia’s aged care system and how it works.
Blue Mountains Mayor, Mark Greenhill said that with significant updates to aged care arrangements coming into effect at the end of 2025, these events will provide clear, practical guidance to help people make informed decisions with confidence.
“Navigating aged care can be overwhelming for families. These events provide a valuable opportunity for our community to hear directly from experts, ask questions, and feel empowered to plan for the future,” Cr Greenhill said.
“I encourage seniors and carers to attend and make the most of this free resource. The sessions will cover both in-home care and residential care options, explaining where to start on your aged care journey, how to register for services, what support is available, and what the recent changes mean for individuals and families.”
Attendees will be introduced to experts in the aged care field, who will simplify the updated system, break down complex processes, and share insights drawn from real-world experience.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions in an open Q&A, enjoy complimentary morning tea, and take home useful literature from the various organisations involved.
There will also be time to chat one-on-one with representatives from aged care service providers and support organisations, making it easier to connect directly with the right people for individual needs.
Two identical events will be held as part of the Council’s March Senior’s Month events:
· Blue Mountains Cultural Centre Katoomba:12 March 10.30am to midday
· Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub Springwood:19 March 10.30am to midday
Registration is essential as places are limited.
