An elderly man has been rescued from a creek after he crashed his mobility scooter in the Lake Macquarie area this afternoon.
Police say nearby pedestrians went to the aid of the 87-year-old man after his scooter ran off a footpath, rolled six metres down an embankment and into the creek below Freemans Drive at Cooranbong, about 3pm.
Emergency services arrived to find passers-by supporting the man in waist-deep water.
Fire and Rescue NSW officers carried the man to the roadway where he was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition suffering hip and rib injuries.
Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District have been told the man’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The man’s scooter has been retrieved.
