82-year-old bashed with spanner in Moree break-in

NSW Police are appealing for public assistance after an 82-year-old man was injured during a home invasion at Moree, in the state’s north-west.

Police say that at around 5.45pm yesterday, the elderly man was confronted by an unknown man inside his home on Chester Street.

“The intruder threatened the man and demanded money before striking him to the head with a spanner and spraying fly spray in his face,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“He fled and the man alerted his neighbours who then contacted emergency services.

“Officers from New England Police District attended and drove the man to Moree Hospital for treatment.”

A crime scene was established at the home and an investigation into the incident is underway. The man being sought by Police is described as being of Aboriginal appearance and aged in his 20s or 30s.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
