81-year-old man extradited from UK to face historical sex abuse charges

Victoria Police has extradited an 81-year-old man from England to face historical sexual assault charges relating to alleged offences in the state in the 1970s.

In a statement released today, Victoria Police said that in conjunction with the Federal Attorney-General’s Department, Crime Command Sano Taskforce detectives had successfully extradited the man from the UK.

“He has been charged with 27 counts relating to child sexual abuse offences,” police said.

“The charges relate to offences allegedly committed against six male children while he worked as a carer in Burwood between 1972 and 1974.”

The Ipswich man will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today via video link for a remand hearing.
