The City of Launceston Council has announced the rollout of $800,000 worth of footpath renewal and upgrade works as part of its 2023/24 capital works program, with works already underway in some suburbs.
The Council says footpath works will be undertaken in suburbs including Kings Meadows, South Launceston, Newnham, Trevallyn, Summerhill, Mowbray, Prospect and Newstead throughout this financial year.
Launceston Mayor, Matthew Garwood reminded motorists and pedestrians to obey any warning signage which may be in place while works are carried out.
“The City of Launceston is pleased to be able to deliver these important upgrades as part of our Annual Budget’s capital works program,” Mayor Garwood said.
“The work we’re undertaking will ensure our footpaths remain fit for purpose into the future, and will also result in accessibility improvements in high pedestrian traffic areas like bus stops.
“Where possible we’re also widening footpaths to provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists.”
Work is planned to improve sections of footpath on the following roads:

- Elizabeth St, Launceston • Opossum Rd, Youngtown

- Southern Outlet • Outram St, West Launceston
- Frankland St, Launceston • Peters Ave, Summerhill
- Franmaree Rd, Newnham • Poplar Parade, Youngtown
- French St, Launceston • Punchbowl Rd, Newstead
- Glen Dhu St, Launceston • Ravenswood Rd, Ravenswood
