74-year-old suffers broken hip in service station attack

A man will face court today after he allegedly assaulted a 74-year-old man, leaving his victim with a broken hip in Sydney’s south-east yesterday.

Police say that at around 10am on Monday, officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command responded to reports of an assault at a service station on Gardeners Road, Kingsford.

“Police were told a man approached another man, aged 74, over an alleged incident that occurred a short time earlier at the same premises,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The younger man then allegedly kicked the elderly man, forcing him to fall backwards. He then struck the older man, before dragging him outside by the ankle.”

Once outside, the man allegedly kicked the 74-year-old man in the head, before leaving the scene, police said.

The elderly man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment to a fractured hip and facial injuries.

“Following inquiries, police attended a home on Boussole Road, Daceyville, and arrested a 44-year-old man just after midday,” NSW Police said.

He was taken to Maroubra Police Station and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm.

The Daceyville man was refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today.
