12-year-old charged over Tamworth home invasion

A 12-year-old boy has been charged following an investigation into an aggravated break and enter at a home in the state’s north.

Police say that shortly before 3am on Sunday, the occupant of a home on Croydon Avenue, Hillvue, in Tamworth was woken by the sound of smashing glass and people ransacking her house.

The woman locked herself in a room and contacted Triple Zero (000).

“Officers attached to Oxley Police District arrived a short time later and commenced an investigation,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“About 1.50am today, police were patrolling the South Tamworth area when they attempted to speak with a group of youths who ran from the scene.

“Following further patrols of the area, police stopped a group of people on Anne Street about 2.45am.

“After speaking with the group, police searched a 12-year-old boy, allegedly finding a 20cm kitchen knife in his bag.”

The boy was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break/ enter in company and custody of knife in public place.

He was bail refused to appear before a children’s court today.
