New Canberra COVID rules revealed

The ACT Government has announced an easing of COVID-19 restrictions in line with NSW and Victoria.

From 6pm today, density limits will be removed and there will no longer be a requirement for businesses to display signage for capacity limits.

The requirement for patrons to be seated while eating and drinking in hospitality and licensed venues will also be removed, and dancing will be permitted.

From Monday, February 21st, elective surgery will resume at Calvary Public Hospital at Bruce, with a gradual return to full capacity in the days following.

From midnight on Monday, the mandatory quarantine period for unvaccinated international travellers will be reduced to seven days. Exemptions for unvaccinated travellers to enter the ACT to complete their quarantine period will continue to be required.

The Government is also removing the requirement for international travellers to complete an online declaration form, while testing requirements and restrictions on entering high-risk settings for international travellers will remain in place.

In further changes flagged today, from midnight on Friday, February 25th, there will be changes to mask-wearing rules in the capital, with more details to be announced next week.

From the 25th, exemption requirements for all events will also be removed. However, events of more than 5,000 people will be asked to submit a COVID safety plan to ACT Health.
