NSW recorded 345 new locally-acquired cases of COVID-19 and the deaths of five people with COVID in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
“Sadly, NSW Health is reporting the deaths of five people – three women and two men,” NSW Health said in a statement this morning.
“One person was in their 30s, one person was in their 50s, one person was in their 70s, one person was in their 80s, and one person was in their 90s.”
Three people were from south-western Sydney, one person was from Sydney’s inner city, and one person was from south-eastern Sydney.
One person was not vaccinated, two had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and two had received two doses, the health authority said.
“A man in his 70s from south-western Sydney died at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions. He acquired his infection at the Greek Orthodox Community Home for the Aged in Earlwood, and is the first death linked to an outbreak there.”
“A woman in her 90s from south-eastern Sydney died at Prince of Wales Hospital, where she acquired her infection. She had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions.
“NSW Health extends its sincere condolences to the families and friends of the people who have died.”
There have been 492 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since 16 June 2021 and 548 in total since the start of the pandemic.
There are currently 482 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 125 people in intensive care, 67 of whom require ventilation.
