Community COVID case confirmed

South Australia recorded four new cases of coronavirus yesterday, including an 80-year-old woman who health authorities are treating as a new community transmission case.

SA Chief Public Health Officer, Nicola Spurrier said the woman was tested in Lyell McEwin Hospital on Saturday morning and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

“In the last couple of minutes before coming to the press conference I’ve also received two positive results from family members of this case,” she said.

“Of the two family members there’s a female in her 50s and a male in his 60s, and the important thing to note is that one of those people works in one of our medi-hotels.

“So that’s very early information, we still will be doing genomic testing but obviously this is where we are considering the source to be.”

SA Health is in the process of contacting people who may have been in contact with the 80-year-old woman at the Lyell McEwin Hospital.

It said she was at the hospital at 5.30pm on Friday, November 13 before being discharged to return home at 4am on Saturday.

“Anyone who was in the LMH emergency department between 5.30pm Friday 13 November and 4am Saturday 14 November who has not been contacted by SA Health should self-quarantine immediately and contact the SA COVID-19 Information Line on 1800 253 787.”

In addition, anyone who was at Parafield Plaza Supermarket on Thursday 12 November between 10:30am – 11:30am should monitor for symptoms and get tested as soon as symptoms appear.

There are 19 active cases in SA and 503 people have been cleared of COVID-19.
