NSW recorded 1,164 new locally-acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night and, sadly, three further COVID-related deaths.

The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is currently 26,820.

Of the three deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, one was a woman aged in her 50s from south west Sydney who passed away at Campbelltown Hospital; an inner Sydney man aged in his 80s who died at St Vincent’s Hospital; and a man aged in his 90s from south west Sydney who died at Campbelltown Hospital.

There have been 96 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since 16 June 2021, and 152 in total since the start of the pandemic.

There are currently 871 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 143 people in intensive care – 58 of whom require ventilation.

Of the 1,164 locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night, 417 are from Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 379 are from South Western Sydney LHD, 116 are from Sydney LHD, 73 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, 54 are from Western NSW LHD, 45 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 15 are from Northern Sydney LHD, five are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD, four are from Far West LHD, four are from Central Coast LHD, two are from Hunter New England LHD, one is from Southern NSW LHD and six cases are yet to be assigned to an LHD.

“Forty-three cases of COVID-19 were reported at Parklea Correctional Centre to 8pm last night, bringing the total number of cases since 18 August to 75, including one healthcare worker,” NSW Health confirmed today.

There has also been one new case linked to the Bathurst Correctional Centre to 8pm last night, bringing the total number of cases there to seven – all are staff members.

“In response to these outbreaks, NSW Health is working with corrections services in testing patients and staff, identifying and isolating contacts and providing immunisation to staff and inmates.”

If you are directed to get tested for COVID‑19 or self-isolate at any time, you must follow the rules whether or not the venue or exposure setting is listed on the NSW Health website.
