WA road race to go ahead

Western Australia’s premier road race and one of Australia’s road cycling classics, the Collie to Donnybrook and Return Cycling Classic, will take place this Saturday August 15.

The 104 kilometre return race, established in 1925, is the only remaining handicap format cycling event in the State and an iconic part of the South-West’s sporting calendar.

“It is fantastic that after an unprecedented few months, the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions has enabled the Collie to Donnybrook to continue running on the third Saturday in August for the 95th year in a row,” said WA Sport and Recreation Minister, Mick Murray.

“I encourage all cycling aficionados to head down to Collie this weekend for the State’s premier road race.”

Kicking off in Collie, riders head through 21 kilometres of hilly terrain towards Mumballup and then on through to Donnybrook, where they turn around and begin their return to Collie.

Entrants will compete for over $7,000 in prize money, and to have their name added to both the race’s trophy and the history books as the 95th winner.
