Victoria Police officer retires after half century of service

Leading Senior Constable Phil White has retired after a half century of service with Victoria Police.

Phil joined Victoria Police on the 23rd of August, 1971 after having served in the Australian Army in Vietnam.

Phil’s early career was spent in general duties as a Constable, Senior Constable and Sergeant at the Glenroy and Sunbury Police Stations. In 1984, Phil transferred to the Essendon Police Station and then the Moonee Ponds Police Station in 1989 where he took on the role of files officer for the station, a role he continued to perform until his retirement this week.

Phil was responsible for the service of summons and intervention orders, the execution of arrest warrants, the execution of eviction warrants the obtaining of statements and the interview of offenders for station Police Officers.

“Even after 50 years service with Victoria Police, the past 31 years in Moonee Valley, Phil still conducts his duties in a prompt and professional manner and is well known throughout the local area,” said colleague Senior Sergeant Ian Jones.

“Phil is extremely knowledgeable in the role he performs and makes himself freely available as a subject matter expert to other members at the station and surrounding area.”

Phil’s long career was celebrated at the station with a morning tea and his colleagues surprised him with the unveiling of the Moonee Ponds Police Board of Excellence, ann award that will be given to one police officer from Moonee Ponds each year in Phil’s honour.

“Phil, from all of your colleagues in Moonee Valley we wish you all the very best in your retirement and we will miss having you around the station,” his colleagues said in a statement online.
