Teens critical after e-scooter collides with car

Two 13-year-olds are in a critical condition in hospital following a collision between an e-scooter and SUV in Alexandra Headland last night.

Queensland Police say initial information indicates that at around 7.15pm, a 13-year-old Mountain Creek boy was riding an e-scooter with a 13-year-old Buderim girl as a passenger eastbound along George Street when a collision occurred with a silver Suzuki Vitara wagon travelling north along Mayfield Street.

“The driver of the vehicle and multiple bystanders stopped to render immediate first aid to the teenagers ahead of the emergency response, however both sustained critical injuries,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

The boy was flown from the scene to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane. The girl was transported by road to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old Mooloolaba woman was not physically injured.

Witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the crash or the moments leading up to it are asked to come forward.
