Tasmanian aged care residents gets first COVID-19 jabs

Respect Aged Care’s Eliza Purton aged care home in Ulverstone was selected as one of the first facilities in Tasmania to offer residents the COVID-19 vaccine.

Eliza Purton resident, Shirley Corbett (pictured) was the first Tasmanian to receive the vaccine this morning.

Respect Chief Operating Officer, Brett Menzies was excited about the opportunity for Eliza Purton residents to be among the first in Australia to be immunised against COVID-19.

“We know from experience how deadly the virus can be in the aged care context, and to have the opportunity for the most vulnerable in our community to be protected cannot be underestimated,” Mr Menzies said.

“The vaccine more broadly means that residents and their families and friends in the longer term can go back to interacting and visiting each other without the level of restriction that was required in order to protect the frail aged.”
