State funeral for Judith Durham

The Seekers lead singer, Judith Durham, 79, will be honoured with a state funeral, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed this afternoon.

The legendary singer passed away in palliative care on Friday after a short stay at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital following complications from chronic lung disease.

Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Twitter that after speaking with Ms Durham’s family,  they had accepted the offer of a state funeral to honour her life and contribution to the music industry.

The Premier described Ms Durham as a “true icon of Australian music”.
