Serenitas residents cook up another Mother’s Day winner

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Mother’s Day cookbook, Serenitas’ over-50s lifestyle communities across the country have again shared their favourite family recipes for the Mother’s Day Sweet Moments Cookbook that is being gifted to all homeowners.

Serenitas CEO Rob Nichols says, “The Mother’s Day cookbook was a huge success last year, celebrating the many wonderful home cooks within our communities and paying homage to the many women, past and present, who have made a significant and lasting impact in our lives.”

“We have created a new Mother’s Day cookbook, this time with a focus on sweets and treats, because it’s the right of every mum, grandma, and great grandma to spoil loved ones.”

“The Mother’s Day Sweet Moments Cookbook is a tribute to the many memories that are etched forever in our hearts and minds, as most of the recipes have been passed down through the generations and shared at special moments. These memories are brought back to life as we cook and share these favourite treats,” said Mr Nichols.

With over 20 recipes from Serenitas homeowners and staff, the Mother’s Day Sweet Moments Cookbook features favourite go-to recipes that are perfect for when you need to quickly whip up a batch of biscuits or slice, bake a celebratory cake or decorate a flan, and everything in between.

Anchorage resident, Pauline Stewart contributed her ‘Nana Cath’s Sponge Cake’ recipe to the cookbook.

“She was a grandmother figure to my kids, and a great grandmother for my own grandkids,” says Pauline.

“It’s something I now make for birthday celebrations or when I have company over. It is so simple yet so delicious it’s something anyone can whip up.”

Burleigh Town resident, Natasha Miller’s NZ-inspired ‘Hokey Pokey Biscuit’ recipe also features.

“My family had a coffee shop in New Zealand and these biscuits were always in the sweets jar to be sold,” she says.

“They were a popular treat with all the kids, including me. Whenever I visit my sister in New Zealand, she always has a batch ready and waiting for my visit. It’s a sweet treat that we both enjoy and takes us both back to our childhoods.”

Golden Downs resident Kay Bladin’s ‘Corn Flake Nutty Bites’ are sure to be a hit with readers.

“This is a recipe that I’ve played with over the years, and it is just delightful,” says Kay. “It can be made gluten-free with gluten-free flour and corn flakes if preferred, and it is still just so delicious.”

“This recipe can be served up as a party dish, or as a scrumptious afternoon or morning tea treat. I know from experience they never last long when I serve them up.”
