Police condemn ‘bastard act’ of trio who ran from fatal crash

Police have slammed the actions of three people who fled a fatal crash in Melbourne’s west this morning – saying it was “a real bastard act” to leave a 69-year-old man to die as they abandoned their own vehicle and ran from the scene.

Police have now obtained CCTV vision that shows the impact of the collision at Sunshine West. The vision reportedly also shows at least one person running back and forth between the impacted cars, before then running from the scene.

“It’s a real bastard act to leave a person dying on the side of the road in a collision you’ve been involved in,” Sergeant Stephen Hill told media this morning.

It is believed a white Audi sedan was travelling north along Links Street when it collided with a gold Honda sedan travelling east on Glengala Road just before 1am today.

Both vehicles then crashed into two parked cars on Links Street.

“Sadly, the driver, of the Honda a 69-year-old Sunshine West man and sole occupant, died at the scene,” Police said in a statement earlier today.

Police have been told a number of occupants were inside the Audi at the time of the collision and they were seen running from the scene.

One of the occupants, a 22-year-old Wyndham woman has been arrested by Police. The other occupants of the Audi have yet to come forward to Police

Investigators are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage.
