Penrith aged care cleaner tests positive

A cleaner at a western Sydney aged care home as reportedly tested positive to COVID-19.

It’s believed the cleaner was employed at Uniting Care’s Edenglassie Aged Care Lodge in Penrith. Management of the facility are contacting families to advise them of the detection.

The Lodge has been operating for more than two decades and is home to around 20 residents. It has a dedicated Memory Support Unit specialising in around-the-clock care for dementia sufferers.

NSW recorded 1,218 new COVID-19 locally-acquired cases today, with 813 people in hospital with COVID-related conditions.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian remains committed to a partial reopening of the state once 70% of residents over 16 have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
