NSW records 2,501 new COVID cases

NSW has recorded 2,501 new COVID-19 cases today, as calls grow for the return of public health restrictions in the lead-up to Christmas Day.

NSW Health reported no COVID-related deaths overnight, but confirmed 33 people were currently in intensive care units for treatment of coronavirus symptoms.

NSW Dominic Perrottet has ruled out a re-introduction of mandatory masks for indoor use in NSW but has “strongly encouraged” the continued use of masks in the state, saying it was now a matter of personal responsibility for NSW residents.

Meanwhile, Victoria has recorded 1,302 new cases and no deaths in the last 24 hours.
