NSW on eve of COVID-19 milestone

NSW Health authorities are hoping to mark a new record in their COVID-19 battle tomorrow – with the state set to record 50 days without a locally-transmitted case of the virus.

Overnight two cases were recorded in quarantined overseas travellers, bringing the total number of cases in NSW since the pandemic began to 5,020.

“NSW recorded no new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night; the 49th consecutive day without a locally acquired case,” NSW Health said in a statement.

“There were 9,727 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 11,594.”

NSW Health thanked the community for their continued response in coming forward for testing and following public health advice.

“With new cases being regularly detected among overseas arrivals, there is still a risk of COVID-19 spreading into the NSW community,” NSW Health said.

“It is important that everyone continues to watch out for any signs that could indicate COVID-19 and to come forward for testing if they have even the mildest of symptoms.”

NSW Health is currently treating 54 COVID-19 cases, one of whom is in intensive care but does not require a ventilator.

“Most cases (93%) are being treated in non-acute, out-of-hospital care, including returned travellers in the Special Health Accommodation,” NSW Health said.

There are more than 350 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW, many of which are open seven days a week. To find your nearest clinic visit COVID-19 clinics or contact your GP.
