Australia’s finest Winter Olympic and Paralympic athletes are being celebrated with the Royal Australian Mint release of two stunning coins to commemorate the Australian teams competing at the 2026 Winter Olympic and Winter Paralympic Games in Milano Cortina, Italy.
“Australians have a strong connection to sport, not just as a form of entertainment, but as something that shapes our national character, values and way of life. These coins aren’t just a reflection of the nation’s stories – your stories – they celebrate the pride we all feel as a country during these significant international events,” said Royal Australian Mint Chief Executive Officer, Emily Martin.
The 2026 $1 Coloured Uncirculated Coin – Winter Olympics features a dynamic design of a skier mid-pose, captured at the height of their freestyle performance. Snowflakes frame the design, enhancing the connection to the winter season. The vibrant colours surrounding the athlete reflect the energy and agility of our Olympic Team, while the distinctive Australian Olympic Team logo ties the coin to the national pride and ambition of the Milano Cortina 2026 Australian Winter Olympic Team.
The 2026 $1 Coloured Uncirculated Coin – Australian Winter Paralympic Team marks a historic milestone – the 50th anniversary of the first Winter Paralympic Games. The coin showcases a determined para alpine skier, symbolising the resilience and athleticism of Australian Paralympians. The athlete’s motion is framed by snowflakes that tie the design to the essence of winter sports, while the Paralympics Australia branding surrounds the coin, serving as a reminder of Australia’s unwavering support for its Paralympic champions.

Both coins were designed by artist, Elyssa Waterford, whose creative vision brings these designs to life.
Australian Olympic Team Chef De Mission, Alisa Camplin said she was excited to see these beautiful coins being released ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“Our athletes are gearing up for an extraordinary challenge, and these coins are a perfect way to celebrate their dedication and passion. It’s an honour to know that Australians will be able to hold a piece of the Games in their hands, proudly displaying their support for Team Australia as we head into Milano Cortina,” Ms Camplin said.
Australian Paralympic Team Chef de Mission, Ben Troy said the design of the Paralympic coin reflected the heart of what our para-athletes embodied.
“Determination, resilience and the drive to excel on the world stage is depicted on these coins. As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Paralympic Winter Games, these coins serve as a reminder of how far we’ve come and the incredible athletes who continue to inspire us all. I’m thrilled that we can commemorate this milestone in such a meaningful way,” Mr Troy said.
Ms Martin said the Mint was incredibly proud to support Australia’s athletes by creating these limited edition coins.
“We are dedicated to celebrating and honouring those who represent our nation with pride, and these coins are a testament to the skill and perseverance of our Olympians and Paralympians. Each coin beautifully captures the passion and resilience of both Australian teams, and we’re excited for collectors and fans to share in this journey with us,” she said.
As the Winter Games kick off, both coins are available for purchase via the Royal Australian Mint’s standard channels from 8.30am on Thursday, 5 February.
