Angela Lansbury dies just days before 97th birthday

Angela Lansbury, the British actor loved around the world for her ability to solve murders as crime novelist, Jessica Fletcher, in the long-running TV series Murder, She Wrote, has died at the age of 96 – just five days shy of her 97th birthday.

The Academy Award nominated actress passed away at her home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, according to a statement released by her family.

In 2009, Ms Lansbury won her fifth Tony, for best featured actress in Blithe Spirit.

But she is best known for her role in the hit TV show, Murder, She Wrote, which first hit television screens in 1984.

The Miss Marple-style show saw Ms Lansbury stay as Jessica Fletcher, a former substitute teacher and widow turned amateur crime sleuth.

The hit show ran for more than a decade and was broadcast around the world.

Murder, She Wrote brought Ms Lansbury 18 Emmy Award nominations. She also holds the record for the most Golden Globe Award nominations and wins for best actress in a TV drama series.
