M*A*S*H* star dies at age 84

Sally Kellerman, who played the original Margaret ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan in the 1970 Robert Altman film, ‘M*A*S*H*’ has died from heart failure at the age of 84.

Ms Kellerman’s manager and publicist, Alan Eichler, confirmed her death to USA TODAY.

It’s believed the actress died in her sleep in her Woodland Hills, California home.

Her screen career spanned more than 60 years and included roles in Star Trek in 1966 and, in more recent times, the actress appeared on the TV series Decker in 2016.

When M*A*S*H* became a TV series – running from 1972 to 1983 – the iconic Hop Lips role was taken on by Loretta Swit.

Ms Swit today paid tribute to Ms Kellerman, tweeting a broken heart emoji and adding the hashtags #OG #HotLipsHoulihan.

Ms Kellerman had two marriages – the first to Starsky and Hutch producer, Rick Edelstein, from 1970 to 1972. Her second marriage was to producer, Jonathan Krane in 1980, a marriage that lasted until Krane’s death six years ago.

She is survived by her son, Jack and daughter, Claire.
