Man in his 50s dies after shark attack

A man in his 50s has died following a suspected shark attack on the state’s Mid North Coast this morning.

About 11.20am, emergency services were called to Tuncurry Beach, Forster, where they found a man suffering critical injuries to his upper right thigh after being attacked while surfing.

“The man was pulled from the water and officers from Manning Great Lakes Police District commenced CPR; however, he died at the scene,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Tuncurry Beach and Forster Main Beach are currently closed.

“Police will be working with the Department of Primary Industries to identify the species responsible,” Police said.
