A 40-year-old man will appear in court today charged over separate alleged unprovoked assaults of a woman and child in Sydney’s Inner West earlier this week.
Police say that at about 3.40pm on Tuesday, a 23-year-old woman was walking on Missenden Road, Camperdown, when she was approached by an unknown man who allegedly punched her in the side of the face.
She fell to the ground and was punched again, before she was able to walk away.
The woman sustained facial bruising and was assisted by a member of the public, before officers from Inner West Police Area Command were notified.
In a second incident, a five-year-old boy and his nine-year-old brother were walking with their grandmother along Bridge Street towards Ross Street, Glebe, when an unknown man allegedly punched the younger boy in the face about 4.20pm the same day.
He fell to the ground, sustaining bruising, and the man continued walking on Bridge Road.
Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries and a public appeal, Leichhardt detectives arrested a 40-year-old man near Central Railway Station about 9.20am today.
He was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The man was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
