A 27-year-old Korean national will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today to face allegations that he stole more than $360,000 from the bank account of an 89-year-old woman.
ACT Police extradited the man from NSW on Tuesday to face the fraud charges.
The man was initially arrested at Sydney Airport as he was preparing to leave Australia, following an investigation that commenced in March 2020, when the 89-year-old victim reported multiple suspicious transactions from her bank account.
The investigation revealed transactions commencing in June 2019, where money was transferred out of the woman’s account.
Police will allege a total of $363,020 was taken from the victim.
On Saturday, police were notified that the man, who had been in Australia on a working visa, was booked on a flight to South Korea. A warrant was issued, and the man was arrested about 8.40pm that evening.
NSW authorities approved the man’s extradition on Tuesday afternoon, and he will face 27 charges of obtaining property by deception in the ACT Magistrates Court today.
