Man, 71, assaults ambulance officer

A 71-year-old man will face court today charged after allegedly assaulting an ambulance officer in Sydney’s south west last night.

Police say that shortly before 10pm, NSW Ambulance officers attended a unit on Celebration Road, Sadleir, after receiving a call for medical assistance.

“As the male ambulance officer was treating the man, the 71-year-old patient allegedly struck him in the face with an open hand,” NSW Police said in a statement today.

Police were called to the scene, where a short time later officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command arrested the man.

After undergoing a medical assessment at Liverpool Hospital under police guard, the man was taken to Liverpool Police Station.

He was charged with obstruct or hinder ambulance officer by act of violence.

He was refused bail and will appear at Liverpool Local Court today.
