Victoria Police are appealing for public assistance after a victim was scammed of more than $7000 last month by a woman posing as a police officer.
Police say the scammer told the victim she needed to pay money to be exonerated from a criminal investigation involving her bank accounts.
“The victim complied and withdrew $7,700 and met an unknown female on Tanderrum Way in Broadmeadows on November 27 and gave her the money,” Victoria Police said in a statement today.
“The victim, a 47-year-old Campbellfield woman, had no further contact with this woman.”
Investigators have released an image of a woman they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
She is described as being 30-40 years old, with black hair, wearing a purple jumper, white pants and carrying a black handbag.
Anyone who recognises this woman or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
