Golfer tees off for cancer battle

Western Australian amateur golfer, Kathyrn Norris, is organising a Birdies for Breast Cancer Challenge in support of her mum Lynda Norris who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Kathryn will be joined by US LPGA major winner Hannah Green, professionals Jarryd Felton and Braden Becker and WA’s top male amateurs Hayden Hopewell and Haydn Barron in an effort to raise $20,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation when they tee off next month.

The event will take place at The Cut Golf Course in Dawesville, WA on Sunday 5 July.

Kathryn said her mum, Lynda Norris (pictured) is her inspiration and the reason behind the fundraising event.

“She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in December last year, and has been undergoing chemotherapy and targeted treatments over the last few months,” said Kathryn

“She also had extensive surgery on her neck to remove cancerous tumours In her cervical spine, soon after her diagnosis. Despite all this, her positivity and sense of humour shines through,” she said.

“She’s so fortunate to be benefitting from drugs which have revolutionised the treatment protocol for her type of cancer and we’re extremely grateful to the medical team who have been involved in her care and support these last few months.”

Kathryn says she hopes to raise as much money as she can via the event.

“I can’t think of a better way of using my love of golf to raise awareness and give something back and I’m very grateful to the amazing West Australian golfers who are giving up their time to help me to do this.”

“Get behind us as we test our skills to raise money for Breast Cancer by challenging ourselves to shoot a team score of 27 under over 18 holes.”
