Former Currumbin MP’s shock cancer diagnosis

Former State Member for Currumbin, Jann Stuckey, has revealed her shock cancer diagnosis in a Facebook post overnight.

The 67-year-old former Gold Coast politician said the “unwelcome surprise” was discovered by doctors last month as she underwent surgery to remove her gall bladder.

“News will no doubt filter out about my health so I have decided to put out a statement,” Ms Stuckey said in the online post.

“After an emergency cholecystectomy to remove a blocked, infected gall bladder on June 26 a very small cancerous tumour was discovered hiding in my pancreas.

“[On Monday] I commenced a vigorous course of chemotherapy to give me the best chance for surgery in a few month’s time.”

The former politician said she was approaching the cancer treatment with “optimism”.

“And ask you, my friends and colleagues, not to be strangers and to send me positive vibes,” she wrote online.

Ms Stuckey resigned from Parliament in 2020 at age 65, citing her ongoing battle with depression at the time.
