A Dubbo family’s Christmas hay bale display is bringing much festive joy to residents in the state’s Orana region.
Created by local farmers Jenny and Bob Johnson initially for their 11 grandchildren, the annual display of hay bales painted as Mr and Mrs Claus with a huge Christmas tree complete with hay ‘gifts’ is now a must-see event in Dubbo.
“We started the tradition a few years ago for the kids. I’ve always enjoyed Christmas and it is something I believe is quite special, so we wanted to do something special,” Mrs Johnson told Dubbo’s Daily Liberal newspaper.
“It is a family effort.
“We have four kids, so we all get involved in the painting and decorating and our youngest son, who is quite smart and creative, does all of the freehand stuff.”
Mrs Johnson said she enjoys seeing other residents bringing their kids out to see the hay bale displays.
“We love knowing that other people have been enjoying it,” she said.
