95-year-old nursing home resident, Clare Nowland, has died in Cooma Hospital, one week after being tasered by a NSW Police officer who responded to a call for assistance from staff at the facility.
The much-loved great grandmother passed away shortly after Homicide Squad detectives charged Senior Constable Kristian White, an officer with 12 years experience, with assault and grievous bodily harm offences over the incident. It is understood those charges could now be upgraded when he next faces court.
It’s understood Snr Cst White tasered 43kg, 157cm (5ft 2) tall Mrs Nowland after she approached him on her walking frame while holding a kitchen knife.
“Mrs Nowland passed away peacefully in hospital just after 7pm this evening, surrounded by family and loved ones who have requested privacy during this sad and difficult time,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“Our thoughts and condolences remain with those who were lucky enough to know, love, and be loved by Mrs Nowland during a life she led hallmarked by family, kindness and community.”
