Uniting has welcomed the first aged care residents to its new 114-bed aged care home in what it is calling Australia’s first ‘city for seniors’ in Westmead, around 26km west of Sydney’s CBD. 
The home is the first stage of a redevelopment which also includes 70 independent living units.
Uniting’s Director of Property and Housing, Simon Furness said the facility was designed to create ease of access between retirement living, assisted living and residential care with a seniors gym, early learning and community facilities including a café and hair and beauty salon all on site.
“This precinct will be especially important for couples whose care needs change over time as both will be able to receive the support they need without having to move too far from partners and friends,” Mr Furness said.
All services are set to open by February 2021 with 160 retirement living apartments planned for stage 2.
