Appeal to find Hoppers Crossing man 21 years after he disappeared

Detectives from Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate the disappearance of missing Hoppers Crossing man Selman (Sam) Mala, 21 years after he vanished from his home.

Police say the then 37-year-old (pictured) was last seen by family members on 28 June, 2000 at his Westmeadows Lane address.

“Sam was picked up by a vehicle, believed to be a 1978 – 1982 Ford Fairlane, by two unknown males and two unknown females,” Victoria Police said in a statement today.

“He had all of his belongings and told family he was moving to Adeliade to live, in a bid to avoid an upcoming court appearance.”

Theys ay Sam has not been heard of or seen since that day and there have been no known possible sightings.

“Family members reported Sam missing in 2004. Originally believing he had moved to Adelaide, after a number of years of no contact they grew increaslingly concerned,” police said.

Sam is is decribed as being 178cm tall with a thin build, short brown hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a brown coloured jumper and grey track suit pants with a white strip.

Since 2004, Victoria Police has made a numerous appeals for information in relation to Sam’s disappearance.

Detective Senior Constable Paul Stokes said the family are hoping for answers from this latest appeal.

“Sam has been missing for over twenty years and we are very keen to speak with anyone who knew or associated with Sam at the time of his disappearance, so we can finally give the family some answers,” he said.

“Anyone who may have information in relation to his whereabout could help us give Sam’s family the answers they need.”

Detectives have re-released an image of Sam, in the hope someone may recognise him and provide information regarding his whereabouts or in relation to his disappearence.
