More to explore in week three of Victorian Seniors Festival

The 2025 Victorian Seniors Festival continues to bring joy, connection, and inspiration across Benalla Rural City, with week three (16–22 October) offering a fresh line-up of events celebrating the vibrant lives and contributions of older residents.

From music and movement to stories, tech, and creativity, the festival invites seniors to try something new, meet others, and enjoy everything that makes our community special.

Benalla Rural City Mayor, Bernie Hearn, said the festival is about more than just fun, it’s about recognising the value of the seniors in the region.

“The Seniors Festival is a time to honour our senior community members, share experiences, and build new connections,” Cr Hearn said.

“Week three offers a fantastic variety of events — whether you’re interested in local history, picking up a new skill, or just enjoying a cuppa and a chat, there’s something for you.”

Week three highlights include:
 World Flavours Morning Tea – Delight your senses with food, music, and culture from around the globe.
 Author Talk with Gabriel Bergmoser – Hear from the best-selling author as he shares inspiration on his latest fast-paced thriller.
 Tech Savvy Seniors – Build your digital confidence and discover tools to help you stay connected and independent.
 Benalla Historical Walking Tour – Step back in time as you explore the stories and landmarks of Bridge Street.
 Reel History: Benalla’s Story on Screen – Experience the town’s past through captivating short films and personal accounts.
 BBQ Lunch and Digital Classes – Enjoy a relaxed lunch and learn how to get more out of your devices with helpful tutorials.
 Super Seniors Video Game Play – Get your game on at the Benalla Library and have some fun with friendly competition.
 Crafternoon at the Library – Wind down with hands-on craft activities and friendly conversation.

“Festival events are a great way to try something you might not usually do. I encourage everyone to get involved and make the most of what’s on offer,” Cr Hearn said.

Most events are free or low-cost, but bookings are essential for many activities. For bookings or more information, visit www.benalla.vic.gov.au/seniors-festival or contact Council on 03 5760 2600.

The Victorian Seniors Festival is a statewide initiative by the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, offering a wide range of activities for older Victorians throughout October.

Last week, as part of the 2025 Victorian Seniors Festival, local residents came together to learn about the LiveUp program – a fantastic free initiative from the Australian Government that supports healthy ageing.

LiveUp is all about helping older adults stay independent, active, and connected by offering simple, practical tools and advice.

Participants explored:
 Easy ways to maintain physical, mental, and social wellbeing.
 A quick self-assessment quiz to understand how you’re ageing.
 Access to local services and social activities.
 Helpful product suggestions – from walking aids to kitchen tools.

With 20 people attending the Benalla session (pictured), it was a great opportunity for locals to take charge of their health and wellbeing in a supportive environment.

This event is just one of more than 40 free or low-cost activities taking place throughout October as part of the Benalla Seniors Festival – celebrating connection, learning, and community spirit.
