Time between flu and COVID-19 vaccine jabs slashed

The required waiting time between influenza and COVID-19 vaccines has been slashed in half.

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation has issued updated advice on the relative timing of administering both vaccines, reducing the waiting time between shots from 14 days to just seven days.

“The preferred minimum interval between a dose of influenza vaccine and a dose of either Pfizer/BioNTech (Comirnaty) vaccine or Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is now 7 days (previously 14 days),” the Australian Department of Health said in a statement.

“In some situations a shorter interval (including co-administration) is acceptable.”

The Department said it was important to ensure all eligible groups in the community were offered the influenza vaccine in addition to the COVID-19 vaccine.
