After almost three decades helping children stay safe entering and leaving the school gates, dedicated Warilla school crossing supervisor, Lynne Englert, will bid farewell to generations of students this week.
The community stalwart will complete her final shifts outside Warilla Public School before heading into a retirement filled with travel and family time.
Deputy Secretary of Safety, Policy, Environment and Regulation at Transport for NSW, Sally Webb said Lynne’s care and commitment have kept thousands of children safe.
“School Crossing Supervisors such as Lynne play a significant role in keeping children safe in school zones,” Ms Webb said.
“They not only ensure children have a clear path to walk, but also serve as important role models in their early road safety education.”
As Lynne prepares to hang up the high vis and safety sign for good, she hopes others will consider taking the baton.
“It really has been so very rewarding to see kids that attended the school when I first started here, who are now coming back with their own children,” Lynne said.
Transport for NSW are actively recruiting to fill school crossing supervisors at various locations across the state and members of the public who are interested are encouraged to apply.
