Samoa, an island nation brimming with natural beauty and cultural richness, is an ideal destination to relax, explore at a relaxing pace. Comprising 10 islands, with Upolu and Savaiāi being the largest and surrounded by coral reefs and lagoons, Samoa offers a unique and captivating experience.
From the moment you arrive at the impressive Faleolo International Airport, you will be greeted by the warm smiles of the Samoan people. The scenic drive from the airport to Apia, the capital, is just the beginning of the breathtaking views you’ll encounter in this tropical paradise. Samoa’s pristine beaches, picturesque waterfalls, and lush rainforests are known to erase any desires for rushing.
Apia, on the other hand, is surprisingly bustling for a South Pacific island and offers a vibrant city centre filled with locals and tourists alike. A must-see in Apia is the Siva Afi Fire Knife Show, where you can enjoy a night of food, singing, and dancing at the heart of Samoan culture. While the Apia markets are perfect for finding unique souvenirs to take back home.
Venturing outside of Apia reveals the true essence of Samoaās culture and diverse landscapes. The famous To Sua Ocean Trench, formed by an old lava eruption, is one of the
most idyllic swimming spots you’ll ever encounter. Overcome your fears, as I did, and experience the thrill of swimming in this stunning watering hole.
Down the southern end of the island, Lolomanu Beach offers exquisite white sandy shores
and waters in every shade of blue. Renting a beach fale here for a few hours allows you to
soak in the magnificent scenery.
No visit to Samoa is complete without a trip to Savaiāi via ferry. Spend a couple of nights at
Amoa Resort to explore the island and its top attractions, including the Saleaula Lava Ruins, Alofaaga Blowholes, and the Afu Aau Falls.
Samoa is truly paradise on earth, with its warm climate, rich culture, breathtaking scenery,
and diverse food scene. I feel incredibly blessed to have immersed myself in the Samoan
culture, and you can too on our upcoming Best of Western Samoa tour in October 2025.
