Orange plans colourful Seniors festival

Orange City Council will celebrate its senior residents with 12 days of events as part of the 2023 NSW Seniors Festival from 1-12 February.

The NSW Seniors Festival is the largest celebration of its kind in the southern hemisphere and the theme for this year is ‘Celebrate Together’.

Orange City Council’s Services Policy Committee Chair, Councillor Mel McDonell said the festival was a chance for older people to have a great time, try something new and meet new people at a range of events.

“This is a great opportunity for us all to celebrate the huge contributions older people have made, and continue to make, to our local community,” Cr McDonell said.

Council’s Community Services team has a bumper program of free or discounted activities planned for seniors and their carers to enjoy, including high tea, guided walks, cooking demonstrations, music, dance and trivia, as well as a bus trip to Canberra’s National Museum of Australia.

A highlight of the event will be the official launch of the Seniors Village Hub, which offers a range of programs that aim to increase wellness and reduce social isolation often experienced by people as they get older.

“I encourage all Orange seniors to get out there and enjoy the activities on offer and connect with others in a fun and supportive environment,” Cr McDonell said.
