New clubhouse for Talbarra residents

QLD

Bolton Clarke Talbarra retirement village residents have celebrated the opening of a new village clubhouse including a pool and al fresco barbecue terrace.

The new addition to the village will provide a purpose-built space for Talbarra’s 56 residents to come together socially and enjoy events including community exercise classes.

Long-term resident John Brunner, who moved into Talbarra with his wife Joyce 17 years ago, is among those keen to enjoy the new facilities.

“We moved in just after this place was built in 2007 and it’s changed so much from the early days,” John said.

“From 2007 to about 2013 we shared a community hall venue with the co-located residential care home, then we had a small clubhouse space, so this is a big upgrade for us.

“The clubhouse looks great and I feel like it will have a big impact on what our social committee can do for residents.”

The purpose-designed space offers an inground, heated swimming pool with ramp access and internal perimeter handrails for exercise, aquarobics and general leisure activities. The large alfresco terrace and barbecue facility offers space for outdoor events and gatherings as well as a contemporary kitchen and café area inside.

Executive General Manager Retirement Living, Kim Teudt says the clubhouse was a long-awaited addition for Talbarra residents.

“The clubhouse Cooinda has carried its name over from the old clubhouse and it means ‘happy place,’” she said.

“We started construction in October of 2023 with some wet weather delaying the process but we are so pleased to be able to finally open this wonderful venue for residents.”
